

Our Program
The AASuccess Ability_Attitude_Self-motivation_Poise (AASP) pilot extern program is designed to offer qualified students the life skills required to be an effective "AAS" student scholar [A: Ability is what one is capable of, A: Altitude defines how one thinks, S: Self-motivation is the enthusiasm for accomplishment] team player who can excel in communication, collaborative skills, and poise. AASuccess in partnership with our sponsors is offering an annual scholar development program for a highly limited pool of deserving students. Student externs will have to go through an externship or challenging period prior to a complete review by our scholar selection committee. At the time of the externship, externs must be currently enrolled in an academic program.
Who: Highly motivated high school students with a demonstrable interest to both excel in formal studies and acquire life skills shall be considered.
Duration: Flexibility is emphasized, but not less than six months or 50 hours.
Process: Send your written 150 word essay or more to externship@aasuccess.org. Any topic revolving about your academic background and desire to learn about our "AAS" model is acceptable. Your contact information including full name, grade, school, phone number is required.
Within two weeks, a notification will be emailed back to you
Within three weeks, a virtual conference shall be set up for selected applications
Within four weeks, a final notification shall be sent out to applicants
Selected Externs shall be selected and assigned to lead or co-lead in at least one specific AAS core program, which include:

All of the above programs are designed to help externs to aid students in enhancing the strengths and shoring up the weakness in their individual approaches to study, career development, and address life's many challenges. enhance the participation by AAS active students. There are also meetings that externs must attend and researches that are required, both of which can be conducted remotely.
When externs travel away from the Northern Virginia area, overnight accommodations are provided by AASuccess in the area.
Why Be An AAS Intern?
Students who wish to seek a substantive letter of recommendation from the AASuccess Board of Directors, A tuition-free SAT Study Program or package, award certificates, tuition reimbursement (up to 3 credits and subject to funding availability), AAS annual award recognitions, AND/OR priority spots for joining our elite student group with paid internships, must participate in the externship program.
Who is Eligible?
High School Students and College Students, who can uphold the “AASP” Motto: Ability to excel, Self-Motivation to enhance personal growth, “AAS” Altitude, and Presentation with poise and confidence. Age: 24 or less. Eligibility can be determined via our above application process as indicated above.
Is there a cost?
Currently, the externship program is projected to cost AASuccess at least 3000 dollars annually. Once selected, the student is required to electronically sign procedural forms in order to enroll in the program.

Q: How much time do externs spend in the program?
A: Depending on a specific program in which an extern is enrolled, there is no per se rule stipulating a number of hours required to work as an extern. However, a projected 5 hours per week is required at minimum for our externs. The extern’s work progress and achievements can be measured by meeting deadlines and a demonstrable willingness to make an effort to put time into the program
Q: Is there an opportunity to work while in the externship?
A: The part-time externship hours (estimated to be between 5 and 6 hours per week) make it possible for externs to work.
Q: Definition of the minimum 50 hour-requirement?
A: Each extern is required to spend at least 50 hours during the 6 month externship program. You are required to log in your working hours. Also, the externs may need to attend on-line or in-person meetings that are outside of the required externship hours.
Q: How does an extern graduate from the externship?
A: There are no grades in the externship. Externs are evaluated on their practice and performance skills which are based on a self-evaluation report, a field report and at least 2 letters of recommendation from your peers and/or professionals. An extern must successfully complete all the core and community competencies for a designated core program(s) in order to graduate from the program.
Q: How does an extern earn recognitions and potential rewards as outline above?
A: All externs who graduate from the externship program with a positive recommendation are GUARANTEED to receive at minimum one or more o the following items:
NOTE: In many instances, the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with program participants, exhibitions of the “AAS” characteristics, and the extensiveness of an extern’s involvement in one or more of the above core program(s) are main criteria for earning the guaranteed rewards, and more importantly, more tangible and intangible benefits such as valuable recognition(s), AAS annual rewards and networking resources for career development including paid internships.
Q: What does communication and team building emphasis mean?
A: Communication and team building emphasis means that an AAS externship has a focus on developing an extern to employ their learning life skills to complete their their work according to their chosen priorities.
Thus, the externs get more exposure and experience in maximizing their contributions including time and resources in preparing and executing an assigned task or program. This means that if an AAS student is interested in enhancing his or her personal growth in time management and leadership, AAS externship would be one externship program that would provide the resources and support.
Q: Does an extern need to report to work?
